The Simple Backup Plan Included with your TRANSON Service Contract
The plan
It’s called simple, but only because it works and your files are recoverable. For our Platinum rule of data retention, TRANSON doesn’t get any more basic than the rule of three. To lower the risk of data loss to any environment, you must have three copies of your important data: the original, a backup of the original, and a backup of the backup. The secondary and tertiary copies should be in different locations: Ideally, keep one on premises (local) for swift restores and recovery, and keep one off-site where it isn’t subject to the same physical threats (lightning, flood, theft, and the like). Remember that the rule of three is a practical minimum.
TRANSON’s preferred example of the DATA trinity is as follows: First, your original data on your systems (NAS storage, Servers, Local Drives) is used in your day to day operations. Second, a local VAULT NAS providing not only data protection, but local images of the servers and their respective software installations and configurations, is kept local to your business environment. Third, an off-site, off-line static copy of those data and configurations is safely stored at our location.
How it works
VAULT NAS is installed and configured by our staff and if you’re a monthly contract client, odds are you’re already getting that service. Here’s the additional special service above and beyond. Unlike most MSPs, TRANSON will review with you, the important data you would most like to have saved “offline” and static. Is provides and extra safeguard not only from data deletion, but also from data corruption or encryption. The process will execute via a third party tool and be performed by our trained staff, onsite at your location. The device and data will then be removed from your location and stored in our safeguarded facility.
The Breakdown of Who and What
-
Your local data is used for day to day use and operations. All is stored on your local Servers and NAS devices.
-
TRANSON VAULT is imaging your servers once an hour, to a local VAULT NAS for local use or recovery.
-
VAULT Services runs phase (2) every 24 hours, re-image offsite for use offsite or recovery.
-
TRANSON professional staff backup local NAS and Server data and retain those data offsite.
Alternatively, free online backup and storage space is available for each major mobile platform iOS/iCloud, Android/Google Drive, Windows Phone/OneDrive), however, centralizing the data from all your devices can be a tad more complicated and you must remember to do so regularly. Businesses often prefer backing up to image files, largely because it’s easy to mount such files as virtual machines for simple and quick recovery. This combined with the speed, ease, and safety of recovering from static NAS devices lends itself to our preferred Platinum system of backup.
